Day 1: Arriving in Budapest

Hello!

I did a recent poll on twitter regarding my blogposts about my holidays and I am so grateful for the great response that I received! 69 of you lovely people voted so thank you! Here are the results: 70% of you wanted 2-3 holiday posts and 30% of you wanted 1 long post so I will go with the majority! Without further ado sit down with your favourite drink and get ready to be virtually transported to Budapest!

We had to get up early as we had an early flight to Budapest. We got up around three o’Clock that morning but I didn’t mind as I was so excited! We had to wait around at the airport for hours waiting for our flight. But it was fun to wander around the duty free shops and look at all the cool, unusual products like gigantic Cadburys bars! I got a delicious early breakfast at the airport; lots of lovely fruit for a very cheap price! I wasn’t going to eat anything but I thought I might need something to give me a bit of energy as it would be at least three hours until we arrived at our destination.

The flight itself wasn’t great, I’m not a fan of flying myself, truth be told flying makes me really anxious! There was a lot of turbulence on the flight and towards the end my ears really hurt, particularly my right ear. It was a piercing pain that lasted even for a while after we had landed. I don’t really know what had happened, maybe they popped, I’m not sure!

The taxi ride to the hotel was fine and we got to see lots of the sights of Budapest on our journey there. We stayed at the Bohem Art Hotel and it was absolutely gorgeous. Our room was spacious and we had really good air conditioning which made our stay even more enjoyable. The walls and desk were painted white with matching white chairs with red cushions and red and white bed sheets and wooden floors.

After we got settled in our room and hung up our clothes so they wouldn’t get too creased we wandered down to the hotel lobby. There was a designated time for snacks; 2pm until 5pm which consisted of a variety of chocolate, pretzels, nuts and crackers as well as tea and coffee. I thought this was a lovely gesture.

After having some snacks we wandered around the streets of the town. We found the tourist office and booked a boat tour for the next evening and also a night tour. We then went from shop to shop to look at all the souvenirs. There were so many to choose from! When the hot weather started to get to us and the walking around began to take it’s toll on us we began to look for a restaurant to have dinner. We found a lovely Italian restaurant, although it was quite expensive the food was delicious, especially the lasagna that I got!

We did a little more walking around the streets until we came to a nice grassland area with a two table tennis tables and a pretty little blue and white kiosk that sold gluten free ice cream. Needless to say we bought delicious ice creams cones! I had the most delicious strawberry ice cream. Honestly the flavour was nothing like what I’d ever tasted before!

When evening came we walked up to the bridge, unfortunately I don’t know it’s name but it’s big and white. I’ll leave some pictures of it here. The sun began to set and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was so beautiful, watching all the boats sail by as the sun set behind the buildings. Oh, by the way, the architecture there was absolutely gorgeous, I took lots of pictures and I will share them with you in this post and the next few.

That night I found it difficult to sleep. I think, it was partly due to excitement and partly because my anxiety levels were high due to being in a different country and experiencing new things. I read bit more of The Marble Collector” by Cecilia Ahern to try take my mind off my worries and fall asleep and gradually it worked.

I hope you like my first post about my holidays and the photos I took.

Have you ever been to Budapest?

Did you like it there?

If you’re going on holiday I hope you will have a great time!

Best Wishes!
